discomfit

Often, a word comes to me at the most appropriate time. Today, I was feeling discomfited, and thought to myself, "hey, why don't we use discomfit more often." And then I felt better.

I have had this moment before. My best example was when I was discussing the etymology of "egregious" with a friend studying Latin, and I realized another way that it could/should be used in English. I had a flush of nerdly pride that survives, just a little bit, to this day, and I use the word (where appropriate) more often.

I followed your wiki link, and especially like this useage:

"And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword."

Ouch. ;)
